Welcome to Voices from the Hill

Welcome to the Voices from the Hill writing blog! Our goal is to be somewhere students can express their creative works and talents freely. The site will feature about anything students care to share – from stories and poetry to art and film.

The blog is run by a host of student editors. As our first post, let’s celebrate my meeting the creators!

First is Jefferson Cartmell, but you can call him Clay. He’s an English Major, editor, and you may have also seen him at work in the Writing Center! He enjoys reading and writing fiction and helping others with their writing. He’ll be reviewing your submissions and checking with you that they’re perfect to present.

As the blog’s own technical designer, we have Tanner Stephens! Tanner specializes in Film & Media Arts, and he’s also uploaded some of his creations to YouTube. He’s even working on his own comic called Boxman! And he’ll offer his creative eye to the overall design of the blog.

Focusing on outreach and campus interactions, we have Halley Winstead! She’s a Secondary Education Major and enjoys reading and writing. She’s passionate in spending time with the English Club and the Baptist Campus Ministries Club. She also works at the front desk in CAE.

How to submit?

We want to feature your work! If you have something creative you to share, please upload it here. We feature all sorts of writing and artwork. For specifics: poetry, short stories, short films, photography, artwork, original music, video game development stills, clips and art assets, and more!

If interested, please email it to the official Writing Blog email, voicesfromthehill@upike.edu. A small form is attached that must be filled out before your work can be presented. And be sure to review the submission guidelines here!

We will feature works from students bi-monthly. Once in the middle of the month, and once at the end. If you have a themed work for Halloween or Christmas, be sure to send it to us in time to be uploaded for the holiday or special occasion.

Do note, your submission will be considered to be featured. In addition, it may take time for your work to be seen since we may have less submissions then expected some months, so we will push some features to the next series of uploads.
